Subcommittees:

Earth Day-Karyn reported that Earth Week will be held in the newly remodeled EMU Courtyard, April 20-24. Activities are still in the planning stages, but tentatively planned so far: Monday-CARES group will have a speaker

Tuesday-OSPIRG

Wednesday-Survival Center will hold 'Earth Day Celebration'

Thursday-Jewish Student Union

Friday-Campus Energy and Transportation Departments

Some suggestions for demonstrations were, 'how-to build' a compost container, solar stoves presentation, and environmentally sound paper products.

Also, Karyn is taking nominations for 'Environmental Citizen of the Year', they can be faculty, staff or student.

Environmental Policy-Karyn reported this group is narrowing down the ideas from the departments about how to best implement this policy into a presentable format.

Public Awareness-this group met to discuss how best to advertise Earth Day. Todd is doing the upkeep for the Environmental Issues webpage, please give him feedback and/or suggestions.

Transportation-the proposal for the new car-pooling idea was delivered to Rand Stamm in Public Safety. A new bike coordinator, David Niles, has been hired. This group will contact him to look into the need for bike parking areas. This group will also research planned covered bike parking at new construction areas.

Riverfront Research Project-Doug reported previously about a resolution to be presented to the University senate, this resolution will not be presented due to President Frohnmayer agreeing to a review of this project by a broad based range of committees. The Environmental Issues Committee would like to know who these committees will be/are. Kay will contact Dan Williams to get this information.

New Business:

Karyn met with the director of the Environmental Studies Program. There is an interest in creating and teaching an 'Audit' class. Karyn would like to know if there is funding for this. Kay will research this.

Karyn would like to begin the process for funding an 'educational session luncheon' for the Recycle Coordinators next year.

The next Environmental Issues Committee meeting will be held Wednesday, April 1st @ 11:00am in the EMU Maple Room.
