To supplement our physical inventories, we also conducted interviews with 14 staff members from the Forest Service, Army Corps and State Parks.

Our physical inventories were not able to show us long-term trends of illegal dumping in our project area. Interviews allowed us to find out about seasonality of amounts and types of illegally disposed waste.

We enquired about four key pieces of information, including: composition of dumpsites, factors involving cleanup (including cost, time, and duration), enforcement issues (including fines, number per year and reporting), and prevention (including cost of deterrents, and ability to stop problem).
