Alan Wolfe Memorial Fellowship
Awarded to one or more students (MA or PhD degree candidates) admitted to the Japanese Literature graduate program in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures. Candidates must demonstrate exeptional promise for acheivement in Japanese Literature as evidenced by GPA, letters of recommendation, evidence of originality, the ability to do research, and other applicable criteria. Typically, awards will be granted to a given student for one year only, but under special circumstances maybe repeated for not more than a total of two years. Application review begins February 1st.

Japan America Friendship Fund
Travel scholarships are awarded to U.S. students in East Asian Languages and Literatures planning to study in Japan for one or more academic quarters. The scholarship may be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students. Students should have good to excellent academic standing; evidence of financial need preferred, but not required. Recipeints should express the goal of participating in sustaining and improving Japanese/American relations. The Award is intended as a supplement for expenses related to study abroad, and not to fully fund the travel abroad activities. Application review will begin March 10th.

Frank X. Wegmann Chinese Studies Scholarship
This is a scholarship award for an outstanding undergraduate student majoring in Chinese who wishes to study for one year in China or Taiwan through a University of Oregon sponsored study-abroad program. The department will solicit faculty nominations of students completing their sophomore year of instruction as Chinese majors, who have completed at least one year of Chinese language study and who will benefit greatly from financial assistance. Candidates will be evaluated based on overall quality of their academic work, their commitment to learning, and their potential for further academic achievement. Preference will be given to an Oregon resident. Awards will be for one year. Application review will begin March 10th.
