As I get a lot of energy and good ideas from partners, many of my activities focus on collaboration. I find interesting people with common interests and we scheme about how we can develop our ideas or agendas. Together we can focus our efforts and be more effective. And it's more fun because we often become friends in the process.

Since 1994, I've been involved with the computer aided architectural design (CAAD) research community. I have been active with the US group, the Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) since 1994. I often review research papers and attend academic conferences since it's a good way to understand what others are working on. In the same way, being on competition juries allows me to see cutting-edge presentations. Because I lived in Asia, attended European CAAD conferences, and work on an international journal, I have a global network of specialists. And I have participated in American Institute of Architects (AIA) activities to keep in touch with the profession. Through these organizations, I've met some extraordinary individuals.

On the local/regional level, professional architects and colleagues enrich the ecological side of my classes. They often come in to review my student work. In 2008, I enjoyed leading students in telling about the sustainable historic renovation of University Oregon's White Stag Block in Portland. It has also been great to work UO colleagues looking at how to enhance our thinkiing and teaching with technology. Most recently, I've been collaborating on teaching with technology throughe-Portfolios, on digital fabrication and enhancing digital creativity. Typically I am

Outside of school, I enjoy travel, bicycling (on the flats of Eugene), reading novels and the NY Times, seeing museums and dabbling in artwork. I particularly like to read books about the cross-cultural challenges faced by immigrants, minority and women, but I'm not averse to a really junky detective novel, either. Recent favorites include Diane Abu-Jaber, Leila Ahmed, Khaled Hosseini, Lee Childs.
