Assignment 8:

Image Processing

Chris Chalmers

Objectives:

• To become familiar with image-processing tools such as selection sets, color models and masks.

I. Color Warm-up

Your job is to create the illusion of depth or overlapping in a pair of simple geometric paintings. By selecting parts of the painting and using Fill at a percentage, you can transform the base color. Alter hue, saturation and brightness to strengthen the illusion of depth or overlapping.

After creating one simple composition, create a second one which complements the first. You can try altering the background and adjusting the other colors to match OR you can use a different factor (different saturations) to create the illusion.

II. Collage

Examine your most successful rendering from assignment 7. Consider how you can improve the composition by adding scanned imagery: site context, trees, people, cars. Scan or capture at least one photograph which would work with your rendering. Make sure that the lighting and colors are compatible or adjust them before combining.

Cut and paste parts of your rendering and the photographic images to create a strong composition. (Under the Select menu, use Feather to create soft edges on the section set.)
