Assignment #2:

Precision Drawing & Geometric

Transformations

Mark Chenchin

Objectives:
īTo develop control in using transformation operations such as move, rotate,
mirror and scale to explore design variations.

īTo master the use of precision drawing tools such as grid snap, object snap and
drawing to scale.

Design a tile border pattern
Given a wall of standard 4"x 4" bathroom tiles, design a frieze pattern, that is, a linear repeat
pattern which will act as a top border. You may use any shapes which could be created out of
ceramic clay. Overall tile dimensions should be between 1" and 8". Assume that your tiles must
somehow match to tiles which are nominally 4", that is, 4" on center with 1/8" grout lines.

Adapt the pattern to a
specific situation

Given the pattern you designed, show how you would adapt it to create a tile wainscot (a partial height wall finish, usually a
minimum of 30" high) for a wall which is 1) 5' wide by 9' tall. 2) 10' wide by 8' tall with a 30" wide x 36" tall mirror hung at eye-level.
