Obligatory problem sets will be distributed in class each week. 
They will be due in class on Monday.  There will be a take-home
midterm examination, which will be distributed on Wednesday,
April 21, and due in class on Monday, April 25.  The final exam
will be distributed in class on Wednesday, June 2, and due in the
Linguistics Department office by noon on Wednesday, June 9.  The
midterm will count 35%, the final exam 40%, and the homework
problems 25% of the final grade.
     Graduate students will be required to write a short research
paper.  You should consult with me early in the term about a
paper topic.
