About CPW

MENU:

Community Planning Workshop (CPW) is an experiential program within the Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management at the University of Oregon. Established in 1977, CPW provides students the opportunity to address planning and public policy problems for clients throughout Oregon. Students in the Master of Community and Regional Planning Program work in teams under the direction of faculty and Graduate Teaching Fellows to develop proposals, conduct research, analyze and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations for possible solutions to planning problems in rural Oregon communities.

CPW’s purpose is threefold:

  1. We provide educational opportunities in applied planning research to students;
  2. We provide paid research opportunities for students to help them defray some of the costs of education; and
  3. We provide professional planning assistance to communities, agencies, and organizations across Oregon.

Communities, agencies, and organizations contract with CPW to receive assistance on a variety of planning and public policy issues. Over the years, CPW has been asked to provide assistance on such topics as community and economic development, economic and market analysis, facility management, tourism, social services, recreation, housing, transportation planning, natural hazards, land use, and energy analysis.
