| Dear University Community: We are all very saddened by the events that occurred on the Northern Illinois University campus. Tragedies such as these can make us all feel vulnerable, anxious and unsafe. As the national media continues to recycle the events that occurred on Tuesday, we want to encourage you to take a break from the continuous reporting of this event, as it may cause secondary traumatization and feelings of anxiety to watch the events over and over again. We encourage you to focus your energy on making good connections with others, exercising, spending quiet time or participating in other positive activities. As a community, it is more important than ever for us to be there for one another and to offer help and support to whomever may need it. Please feel free to drop by our office if you feel like talking--we are here to help. Sincerely, The University Counseling and Testing Center Staff |
