Timothy McMahon works
with faculty and staff to create inclusive classrooms and a welcoming
university community. In doing so, he develops and presents workshops,
leads book discussion groups, and consults with individuals. McMahon
also holds a position in the Teaching
Effectiveness Program where he works with faculty and
graduate teaching fellows on issues related to teaching and learning.
Among his professional interests are issues related to college students,
diversity, leadership development, and chaos and systems theory.
Before coming to the University of Oregon, McMahon worked for 16
years in student affairs at Western Illinois University, The University
of Iowa, Washington State University, Lakeland College, and the
University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He has taught graduate courses
in education and undergraduate courses in diversity and leadership,
and he is the co-author (with Susan Komives and Nance Lucas) of
Exploring Leadership: For College Students Who Want To Make A Difference
(Jossey-Bass, 2007). McMahon received a Bachelor's degree in Astronomy
and a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, both from
the University of Illinois, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from
Oregon State University in College Student Services Administration.
He loves the Chicago Cubs, Macintosh computers, Diet Pepsis, the
music of Bruce Springsteen, and learning more about the Lewis &Clark
Expedition.
