Math 681/682 FALL/WINTER 2005/2006, Lie algebras/Chevalley groups
- Instructor Jon Brundan
- Class meets MWF 9:00-10:00, Deady 206.
- My official office hours are 1:00-2:00 MUW. But feel free to stop by any time if you have any questions about homework assignments or about what's going on in class. I'm not scary really.
- I will post homework assignments here
when I remember.
There is not going to be an excessive amount of homework... but I think
I'll try to set a total of four this term, to be turned in at the end of term. I'll assign final grades based on the quality of these answers. You should pace yourselves by working slowly through the problems as we cover the relevant material rather that doing it all at once at the end -- they are after all meant to help you understand the material.

Here is FIRST PROBLEM SET.

Here is SECOND PROBLEM SET.
-
Here is THIRD PROBLEM SET.
-
Here is FOURTH PROBLEM SET.
- This term we're going to finish "Introduction to Lie algebras and representation theory" then start working through Steinberg's "Lectures on Chevalley groups".
- Here is CHAPTER ONE of my very rough notes based closely on Steinberg's.
- Here is CHAPTER TWO.
- No final exam! But its your responsibility to continually review every week to keep up with the material -- especially if you plan to take 683 next term.
