HOMEWORK WILL BE COLLECTED ON WEDNESDAYS!
HW1 due Jan 17: Section 1.1 problems 2,18,24,26,28,30,34,38,58,64,66.
Section 1.2 problem 4. Section 1.3 problem 10,14,20.
When you start working on homework I recommend you skim through the section of the textbook BEFORE you attempt the problems. As you are doing that pay special attention to the EXAMPLES in the text -- the homework problems will often look similar to one of the examples!
HW2 due Jan 24: Note I am away on Friday this week, but another professor will substitute for me that day and cover new material as usual.
For homework this week, please do the following problems.
Section 1.3: 33,34,36,56.
Section 1.5: 7,8,13,14,22,25,26 (some of these require the use of graphing calculators -- read Section 1.4 for examples).
Section 2.1: 4. Section 2.2: 4,5,14.
HW3 due Jan 31:
Section 2.1: 8; Section 2.2: 8,9,26,28,29,30; Section 2.3: 4,5,7,14,17,18,55,58.
This week is a good moment to spend some time reading through sections 2.1 through 2.4 of the text book. Pay special attention to the examples!
HW4 due Feb 7:
There is a midterm on Tuesday next week.
In class on Wednesday I gave out a summary of all the things you need to know for the midterm -- ask me for a copy if you were not there. The midterm will be on anything in sections 1.1--1.6 and sections 2.1--2.3, 2.5--2.6
from the text book. Here is a practise midterm to give you some idea of what to expect. Here are the solutions to that.
The real midterm will not quite be this long.
Homework will be due on Wednesday next week as usual -- except we will not have the Tuesday class to go over it. This is also good review for the midterm so do it BEFORE Tuesday and use office hours if you are stuck!!!
Section 2.3: 26,28; Section 2.5: 4,6,34,38,45,46,50; Section 2.6: 26,29,32,33,38,44.
HW5 due Feb 14:
Now is the time to look through sections 2.7--2.9 of the textbook. We'll finish discussing this material soon, starting chapter 3 next week.
The homework problems this week are from Section 2.7: 2,7,11,15,16,18; Section 2.8: 3,4,6,8,36;
Section 2.9: 2,4,23.
HW6 due Feb 21:
First read carefully section 3.3. I will not cover this explicitly in class though I will cover some of the examples there later on.
Also make a list and try to learn all the rules for differentiation encountered so far. Things like product and quotient rules should be learned by heart -- and some of the derivatives of trig functions are worth trying to remember too.
Finall, problems from Section 3.1: 10,42,54; Section 3.2: 6,9,12,32,37,42;
Section 3.4: 8,10,12,14,19,31,45.
HW7 due Feb 28:
Review chapter 3 for the midterm next Tuesday up to and including section 3.8. Learn the rules for differentiating, including trig functions. In addition, here is the practise midterm and solutions. Finally, here are the problems to turn in next Wednesday (despite the midterm): Section 3.5: 21, 34, 38, 41,42,54,63,64,75,76,77; Section 3.6: 8,10,21,56;
Section 3.7: 20,45,66.
I recommend that you do these problems before the midterm!!! Come to my office hour on Monday if you're stuck...
HW8 due Mar 7: Believe it or not, this is the last graded homework.
We are now covering the important topics in chapter 4.
Section 4.1: 6,22,30,53,58,61; Section 4.4: 8,10,12,17,20;
Section 4.5: 2,8,16,24; Section 4.7: 2,10,20.
HW9 (not to be graded): PDF.
Practise final and solutions.
