Capstone

In the capstone option, students are required to write a proposal for a plan of inquiry in which they will explore a thoughtfully constructed question regarding a topic of current significance in arts administration. Among other elements, the proposal includes an annotated bibliography that supports their selection of three additional courses designed to support an area of inquiry framed by the student. Selected course credits may range from 9 - 12, depending on the specific courses. These courses may not include previously taken courses or program core courses. Students must perform per the syllabus of the classes and must receive a passing grade (B or better). Two of the three courses should be taken in winter term of the second year of study, and the third in spring term.

The proposal is developed in the AAD Proposal Seminar the fall quarter of the second year. Before proceeding with the project, students selecting this option are required to have a completed proposal approved by the program faculty. The proposal may be deemed incomplete or more appropriately pursued as a thesis or project. A revised proposal will be required which may result in extending the student's program of study. If a proposal is approved, information gained from the three courses selected is used to create a 25-35 page synthesis paper that follows programmatic guidelines.

The following proposal components should be complete and well developed.

INTENT OF THE STUDY:

Problem/Purpose
What question or problem will you explore? What is the context of this problem? What particular aspects of the problem will you address in your synthesis paper? Be clear and concise.

Limitations
How will you limit the scope and scale of your paper?

Significance
Why is the problem you are addressing important? How will your particular syntheses paper be a meaningful contribution to the arts management field?

Selection of (3) Courses and Other Resources
