The AIAS is a national organization with student-run chapters
in most architecture schools. It is sponsored by the AIA,
as well as by other organizations. The AIAS provides undergraduate
and graduate students with the opportunity to voice their
views, opinions and concerns at both a local and national
level. The AIAS is the only organization that represents and
fights for the needs of students in architecture. The AIAS
at the University of Oregon organizes and/or sponsors a number
of events such as the Beaux Arts Ball and Career Day. Each
November AIAS members from across the country meet at a conference
called Forum. This November Forum will be held in Colorado.
Members will listen to a number of inspiring lecturers, discuss
environmental, professional, and design issues, and participate
in other events, including charettes.

AVENU, Student Journal of The School
of Architecture & Allied Arts
AVENU has been continuously published since1971 when it was its founded by three architecture students. It is circulated free to all AAA students. All students in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts are eligible for staff positions, although the paper has traditionally attracted more architecture students than students from other areas of the school. In the past few years, however, there has been a noticeable absence of architecture students involved with the paper. It would be nice if the traditional involvement of architecture students could somehow be rekindled. AVENU reflects the interests of its staff, their skills and intentions while providing a forum for school and departmental issues and ideas. The 'paper' is currently published seven times each year with a Fall registration issue followed by two issues per term during Fall, Winter and Spring.
AVENU is funded by advertising, subscriptions and the IFC. The School of Architecture and Allied Arts supports the AVENU by providing an office space and a course, AAA 407 Avenu Publications, which students may take in order to earn elective credit for their gallery.

The Ecological Design Center grew from a merger between the UO SolarInformation Center
and the organizers of the annual H.O.P.E.S. (Holistic Options in Planet Earth Sustainability) Conference in 2001. The EDC has made its mission to advocate for an interdisciplinary
ecological design curriculum for University of Oregon students, cultivate professional ecological design career and networking opportunities for University of Oregon students, create a forum for ecological design dialogue through the annual H.O.P.E.S. conference and on-going events, and advocate for the implementation of ecological design and planning on the University of Oregon campus. Since 1994, H.O.P.E.S. remains one of the only student-run ecological design
conferences in the nation, and the EDC a student-centered organization promoting education and action in ecological design.
Student Forum
272 Lawrence Hall
An organization of graduate students, Grad Forum provides a sounding board for the interests and concerns of graduate students in the department. Grad Forum's goal is to improve and strengthen the graduate programs in architecture and interiors by providing a student voice on faculty committees and meetings. It sponsors symposia and social events of specific interest to both professional and post-professional graduate students. The group's officers meet with program administrators periodically to provide feedback and advise on grad policies. The group also organizes Grad Day each Spring term which invites potential graduate students to the school and informs them on both a faculty and student level about the program. Grad Forum also hosts Spacklefest every year, a program in which students volunteer time, and the school donates funds to repair/replace studio furnishings. Other events Grad Forum has been involved in are: peer advising, design charettes, and design/build seminars. Grad Forum meets the first Wednesday of every month in LA 206 at noon. Bring a lunch. The meetings are open to everyone.
