Assignment 3.2:

Integrating User Feedback

Objectives:

To work as a team in communicating and responding to client needs and developing design directions.

To use juxtaposition to enrich design inquiry

Problem Description:

1.  Articulate new aspects of the design problem that have emerged.

2.  Learn how juxtaposition, placing things side-by-side for comparison or contrast, can enliven design thinking.

3.  Considering ideas of juxtaposition, plan what to do for the mid-review in small groups.

4.  Look carefully at design task logistics & use of digital techniques for juxtaposition.

Part 1:  Review the review:  (group discussion)

What were the most useful communication tools?

What assumptions were changed during the meeting?

Which concepts show the most promise?

How can the most promising aspects of the nixed ideas be recycled?

Part 2:   Juxtaposition

For the next cycle of the design process, you are to re-conceptualize the problem by superimposing new aspects onto the work. By juxtaposing a forced fit with ideas, technology, or imagery, you may be able to think more creatively about the project.

Part 3:  Moving forward:

Define tasks, responsibilities and schedule:

How can we use each member's abilities to the fullest & reduce redundancy?

Which types of representations are most crucial?

Clarify roles, territory / parts or turn-taking

Examples of tasks:

Document clients response with words and images

Provide documentation of reference material and proposals

Define and gather critical information

            Clarify design concept

            Articulate forms

            Superimpose furnishings, textures, background

Representations            :

Diagrams:  Concept, segregation, site context, etc.

            Axonometric of overall plan

            Perspective sequence from digital model

            1/4" plans

            1/2" section with ergonomic figures

            Materials

Examples of Furnishing & Equipment

Part 4:  Digital Juxtaposition

Look at how you can transform a simple 3D model by superimposing photographic imagery into the background, as materials or as figures.

Become comfortable data between CAD and imaging programs.
