Sun ,Wind  Water

Sun, Wind, and Water are environmental conditions that we, as designers, must evaluate.  Sun, Wind, and Water provide an enormous amount of energy that requires environmental control.  By studying these environmental conditions, we can evaluate the resources of the site.  The following is an analysis that will help in your design strategy for downtown Corvallis.
*Corvallis, Oregon was designed for solar access.  This means that the buildings were placed such that they have access to the sun without shading other buildings.

Water

-Almost every building on 2nd. Street has awnings on them.  Awnings are important to protect

the people from both sun and rain.

-The city of Corvallis has about 60 inches of rainwater to deal with each year.  The use of awnings
and gutter systems help with water runoff.

-The city's storm water system is a combination of open urban streams and 95 miles of collection
pipes, 1,900 manholes and 4300 catch basins which gathers storm water from rainfall and
transports it to the Willamette river.
