Sample Program


In the first year the students are expected to take the series of courses offered by the economics department in microeconomic theory. To prepare students for the microeconomic theory sequence, students are expected to take a three week course on the basic mathematical tools of economic analysis offered by the economics department prior to their first fall term in the program. The remainder of the first year will consist of doctoral seminars in accounting and finance and a series of two math courses designed to prepare them for the econometrics sequence to be taken in their second year.

Economics

The training in economics consists of the doctoral level sequence in microeconomics (Econ 607) taken in the first year, and the graduate sequence in econometrics (Econ 524 and Econ 525).

Mathematics and Statistics

In addition to the short preparation course taught by the economics department in the summer prior to their first year in the program, students are expected to take the math/stat series (Math 561 and Math 562). In addition, students should take the course in matrix algebra (Math 341) prior to taking the econometrics series.
