AAUP - State of Oregon Membership meeting -

Portland State University 11 October, 2002

Present: Introduction Reports New Business - Most effective way to try to secure more funding for the Oregon University System - At Ms. Arante's prompting, a number of suggestions were made. Consensus was made around publicizing the state four-year colleges to the public as a way of generating support for OUS in the next legislative session (January, 2003) - It was decided there should be at least two places for publicity:
1) An advertisement in newspapers (Oregonian - about $ 2000; the Register-Guard and the Corvallis Gazette-Times) which would focus on how a cut in funding would hurt students.
2) An advertisement on the radio which has students supporting us (KBOO, OPB, and a Rock and Country Station were suggested). - AAUP-PSU will donate staff time exploring this issue.
MOTION: It was moved by Dennis Stovall and seconded by Gary Brodowicz that up to ten hours of AAUP-PSU staff time would be devoted to exploring putting advertisements in these two sources. Passed unanimously.

Ms. Arante volunteered to notify the Faculty Senates at PSU and OSU by e- mail that the AAUP State Conference is active.

Respectfully submitted,

Charles C. Langford Secretary
