Present: Peter Gilkey, President; Laurel Maughan, past-President; Charles Langford, Secretary; Douglas Derryberry, President, OSU Chapter; Representative of PSU Jacqueline Arante, Vice-President; Representative of OIT Elaine Deutschman, several members of the OSU Chapter's board including Rubin Landau, Will Gamble, ZoeAnne Holmes, and Gary Tiedeman.
The purpose of the meeting was to get acquainted with Dr. Gilkey. He is going to be trying to visit each of the active chapters of AAUP in Oregon.
Dr. Gilkey wanted to know what the issues were and what he could do to help.
Dr. Gilkey said he would update the AAUP web page.
It was suggested by Dr. Derryberry that there be more communication among chapters via the State AAUP President .
Concern was expressed about several actions the Oregon State Legislature might take in its special session in January, 2002, to cut the budget. It was also acknowledged that many of the concerns were local in origin. For example, the OSU Chapter might be concerned about how space is allocated in laboratory in a department on campus. Such concerns would not have state-wide commonality.
Next meeting: 7 December, 2001 at 12:00-13:00 at the PSU campus in Portland, Oregon. (323 Smith Memorial Center)
Respectfully submitted, Charles C. Langford Secretary langforc@ucs.orst.edu (541) 737-5378
