What is National Student Exchange?

What is the National Student Exchange?

NSE began in the 1967-68 academic year with three campuses exchanging seven students. The program is now approaching 180 members placing on the order of 3500 students each year. This is an excellent chance to learn about and experience new places for those students who do not have the opportunity to study abroad. The National Student Exchange allows students to exchange with member campuses without having to pay pricey non-resident tuition prices.

Participating Schools

Experience another culture for up to a year by studying at one of the many member campuses in the U.S. or surrounding areas such as the University of the Virgin Islands, the University of Guam, or one of seven schools in Puerto Rico. Now you also have the opportunity to exchange to Canada and study in one of four provinces (British Columbia, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, or Quebec). For a complete list of participating schools, go to the Official National Student Exchange Website at http://www.nse.org.

  • Experience a different college setting

Student Testimonials

"My NSE experience went smoothly. The NSE coordinator at University of Hawaii, Manoa was very friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend that people go on exchange just because it forced me to adapt to a different location and culture."

-Jenny Sunderland, Exchange to University of Hawaii, Manoa

"NSE is a phenomenal expression of the sociological diversity in this country, the courage and strength of independence, and a deeper acknowledgement of new environments."

-Steven Garner, Exchange to University of Oregon

"I am thankful for my opportunity to meet new people, be immersed in a very different culture, and to grow more independent and spiritual.  At the same time, I am more appreciative of what Oregon has to offer.  I have taken classes not offered at the University of Oregon, which were required for graduate school; others were simply some of the best classes I've taken as an undergrad.  In all, it is going to be hard to leave."

-Liz Hoffard, Exchange to University of Tennessee

"The NSE program was one of the best experiences of my life thus far.  Not only did I get to explore a whole new state and town, but also I became friends with some amazing people.  University of Oregon provided me with a great education, a beautiful campus, and school spirit that exceeded my wildest dreams.  GO DUCKS!"

-Skye Drnek, Exchange to University of Oregon

"This year on exchange has been incredible.  I grew in ways I never would have expected or thought possible.  It was definitely an unforgettable year and probably the best year of my life thus far."

-Meghan Buchanan, Exchange to Virginia Tech

"This experience has been the best thing I have ever done.  I have had the time of my life and I do not want to leave Oregon.  I have made incredible friends, had a great job, and loved the University of Oregon.I would recommend the NSE to any person who asked.  It has provided me with opportunities that I would never have had back in Nebraska."
