I returned to my home state and to the University of Oregon as Museum Studies Coordinator in 2002. Prior to my move to Eugene, I had taught public history at Washington State University since 1997. My background includes work in museums; museum associations; historic preservation; and U. S., public, women's, and architectural history. Before taking the position at WSU, I had taught at Eastern Washington University, Louisiana State University, Clayton State College, and Georgia State University. I had also held positions in historic preservation and in museum association administration in Spokane and Clark County, Washington, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Ph.D. Louisiana State University, History
M. A. Portland State University, History. Area of concentration: historic preservation
B. A. University of Oregon, Education
My teaching focus here in the Arts & Administration program is on the Museum Studies area of concentration. I advise museum studies students and will coordinate the Museum Studies Certificate that we anticipate offering in the fall of 2003. I am developing additional course work to implement an enhanced certificate curriculum: among the new offerings I am undertaking is a course on Public History for Museum Personnel. I also teach Art and Gender for the undergraduate Community Arts major.
My past research agenda has included work on architectural history, women's history, women and the home, and historic preservation. Recent work has attracted me to current challenges attendant to the intersection of public pedagogy and academic scholarship in public cultural venues such as museums and historic sites.
