In the final research phase of study in the master's degree in Arts Management in the Arts & Administration Program, students are required to demonstrate their ability to articulate and contextualize a topic, propose and implement a course of inquiry, report the results in a written appropriate format and public ally present. The goal is to foster skills necessary to succeed in today's arts administration environment by:

  1. Developing an independently framed area of inquiry built upon knowledge gained in previously required coursework, professional experience and published resources;

  2. Implementing systematic research activity including data collection, analysis and interpretation;

  3. Gaining experience in formal report writing and documentation;

  4. Gaining experience in oral presentation of research findings, in a collegial environment. There are three options available to students for completing this final research phase. These are: (a) Capstone; (b) Project; and (c) Thesis. Each option requires the development of a formal proposal, produced in the AAD Proposal Seminar during the fall quarter of the second year. Before proceeding with the research, a completed proposal must be approved by the program faculty.
