This page contain's information related to the AAD Program's internship requirement.

Description:

Candidates for the master's degree are required to complete a 200-hour non-credit internship during the summer between the first and second years of the program. The goal is to incorporate and analyze experiential learning as part the over-all graduate program of study.

Sequence:

Before beginning a summer internship, students must complete at least one full year of required course work, including Research Methods (AAD 630) and two pre-internship seminars . Following the summer internship, students must enroll in two post internship seminars. The pre and post seminars facilitate students in the selection of an internship site, preparation for professional work and integration of experiential learning into the academic program.

Placement:

Summer internship placements are designed to benefit both interns and organizations. With faculty guidance, students seek professional opportunities in non-profit arts and culture organizations, public agencies, and for-profit enterprises. Placements may be local, regional, national or international. Contract: Interns are prepared to work in areas of management, education, research and evaluation, program development, and exhibition design, among others. A contract is developed, stipulating the work, the support provided by the organization and the designated site supervisor. Although organizations are not required to fund interns, many sites offer a variety of in-kind support and stipend options.
