Art Students Hold 'Cheap Jewelry' Sale

Hundreds of pieces of jewelry that are unique, sometimes outrageous and always, well, cheap, go on sale at the University of Oregon next week.

Students in the Metalsmithing and Jewelry Program in the UO Department of Art will hold their tenth annual Cheap Jewelry Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the lobby of Lawrence Hall, 1190 Franklin Blvd. Proceeds from the sale will be used to pay for guest lecturers and to purchase studio equipment.

Using materials ranging from the traditional, such as silver, to the less traditional, such as felt and plastic, the participating intermediate, advanced and graduate students have created jewelry that is both innovative and unexpected, says Anya Kivarkis, visiting professor of art.

About 400 pieces of jewelry, including rings, pendants, brooches and earrings will be sold at prices that will top out at $15 an item.
