Created by Alexander Phimster Proctor, one of America's foremost sculptors, the Pioneer statue has been a campus meeting spot since it was unveiled in 1919. It is a focal point for adornment with such accoutrements as bike helmets, graduation robes, and tie-dyes. The Pioneer is rumored to be the model for Jebediah Springfield, the statue in Homer Simpson's hometown, something we can neither confirm nor deny.
