You should register for summer classes at the earliest opportunity. Summer assistance will not be offered, regardless of the date you submit the 2008 Summer Aid Applications, until you are registered for the number of credits you specified on your application. Changes in enrollment may affect your eligibility for aid.

The university may assist you with loans, and to a limited extent, grants and part-time work during summer session. To be eligible, you must be admitted to the university and enrolled at least half time in a degree or eligible certificate program. If you are a continuing student, you must be in good academic standing to receive financial aid.

Graduate or Law students who apply and qualify for a Graduate PLUS Loan may be able to obtain enough funding to cover the difference between the total budget and the maximum limit of the Federal Direct Stafford Loans they are offered. This loan is typically not necessary or available to students unless they have extraordinary summer expenses approved by our office.

Federal Pell Grant

  • Federal Pell Grants are available to undergraduates who have not already used their full entitlement during the 2007-8 academic year

HOW TO APPLY

To apply for financial aid for summer 2008, you must have a 2007-8 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships and submit a 2008 Summer Aid Application. If you already have a 2007-8 FAFSA on file, you need not file another for summer. If you have not filed a 2007-8 FAFSA, you can either submit a paper copy to the federal processor or submit an online application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. A paper version of the FAFSA can be obtained from the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

TRANSFER STUDENTS: If you are transferring to UO from another school starting summer term, make sure UO is listed as one of the schools authorized to receive your 2007-8 FAFSA information. In order for us to receive your information you must add the University of Oregon, federal code 003223, to the FAFSA online. You may contact the federal processor at (800)433-3243 to obtain assistance with adding us to your FAFSA.

Complete the 2008 Summer Aid Application and submit it to our office. Since funds are limited, priority consideration will be given to those students who have a FAFSA and a 2008 Summer Aid Application on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships by May 10, 2008.

The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships can only award funds for educational costs incurred during your period of enrollment. For example, if you are enrolled in an eight-week session, the student budget will only include living expenses for eight weeks.
