Math 243 (Phillips) final exam Information
Some information on final exam procedures:
-
Final exam Thursday 12 June, 10:15 am--12:15 pm.
If the first letter of your family name is A
or in the range L--Z,
go to 240C McKenzie (our usual classroom).
If the first letter of your family name is in the range B--K,
go to 240A McKenzie (across the hall).
Sit in alternate desks.
-
Bring your student ID,
and put it on the desk beside you during the exam.
Some comments about final exam:
-
The final exam is cumulative, but will have some emphasis
on the material covered after the second midterm.
-
Using the sample problems:
If you study and then find you know how to do them,
you should do well.
If you study just for these questions, you probably won't do well.
-
Always pay attention to whether
the data were properly collected!
-
Descriptions of experiments requiring a placebo must make clear
what a placebo is.
-
A correct solution to a hypothesis test
must state the conclusion in terms of
the original language of the problem.
Just saying that we reject the null hypothesis,
or conclude that the true mean is smaller than what
the null hypothesis said (or something similar),
or, if appropriate, that we do not reject the null hypothesis,
etc., will not get full credit.

Note corrections:
-
MC11: H_0 corrected to H_a throughout.
-
MC17: The answers all had a superfluous dollar sign and one zero too
many.
This has been fixed.
-
17: The last inequality was reversed, leading to the wrong conclusion.
This has been fixed.
-
4a: In the computation, the standard error wasn't multiplied by
1.645.
(Fixed 16 June 2008.)
-
12d: The answer given was for the wrong question.
(Fixed 16 June 2008.)
-
Scattered unimportant misprints have been fixed.
There is no Problem MC1.
Contrary to what I said earlier,
there are some problems on material from before the second midterm.
(I included some problems from make-up midterms.)
These problems may not be representative of the
material on the real final from before the second midterm.
(I have not yet made the real final.)
-
Homework problems.
-
Quiz problems.
-
Examples in the book.
-
Other sources include unassigned problem in the book, etc.
