MIDTERM EXAM
Bring a green/blue exam
book.
The exam will have three
parts. Part I (25 pts.) consists of identification questions asking you
to match the primary sources read so far in the quarter with 5 key concepts
(each an “-ism”, such as “favoritism”) discussed in the lecture. You should explain how the text
exemplifies the concept and provide a specific example from the reading.
In Part II (25 pts.) you
must identify the subject and symbolism of 1 of 2 works of art, and explain its
relevance to broader trends in late medieval society. Review the images
in Camille (esp. pp. 18, 56, 64-5, 78, 96, 109, 118, and 121)! You will not be required to
give the title, artist, or date of any particular image. Instead, you are being asked to
demonstrate that you understand its content and its relevance to this course.
Part III (50 pts.) will be
a straightforward short essay question, asking you to compare the famine with
the plague. Try to be both
comprehensive and specific in making your comparison and identifying the
underlying reasons for such similarities/differences.
