30 December 2008: If you are interested in taking this seminar, please contact me before 10 January 2009. I plan to finalize about half the 'seats' at that time and will do so based on the student's background in Roman and / or German history. By 10 February I will finalize the class list.

What follows is the course plan from the spring of 2008; the information about the course will be updated last in the winter of 2009. I do not anticipate that there will be major changes.

This course is a seminar. Your grade depends on your participation in the discussion (50% of the grade) and on your research paper (50%).
