History 407In order to graduate with a major or minor in history, students are required to take a 407 seminar. In the 407 seminar, students complete a 15-25 page research paper (otherwise known as the senior thesis). Small class settings enhance students' experience in the seminar course. Students can expect readings for class times as well as outside reading and research for the paper. Students will engage in class discussions regarding reading assignments and their paper topics. Amount of readings and assignments vary depending on the professor. The paper assignment requires outside research from class time. Students will spend time researching primary sources regarding their paper topic. Primary sources are documents from the time period in question of their research paper. Examples of primary sources are: original newspaper articles, letters, journal or diary entries, government documents, etc. Secondary sources may be used in addition to the primary sources for support of the thesis statement. Secondary sources are historical recounts or analysis of the subject. Remember to use footnotes and provide a bibliography.
407 Seminars Offered in 2008-2009 Academic Year (Please note: this schedule is subject to change.)
