Senior Project and Exit Exam

Senior Project for Bachelor of Science: A senior project is a requirement for Bachelor of Science degree in Music Technology. The project can be a presentation-recital, a WEB-based document, a collaborative project, and practicum.

Initial Approval of the Proposal: A Senior Project Approval form must be obtained from the Undergraduate Office, processed before beginning the senior project, and placed in the student's file no later than the sixth week of the third term before graduation (see specifics on the approval form). Thereafter, alterations to the project may be made as needed by placing a new approval form in the student's file.

Credit: Credits associated with the senior project are taken as Mus 499 (Senior Project) under the primary adviser. The student may earn a maximum of nine credits for the project.
There are four types of Sr. Projects. Each is outlined below.

For presentaion-recital project: an oral presentation of an hour's duration, containing original music and/or algorithmic or interactive programs (e.g., MAX environment) for composition or performance prepared in consultation with the primary adviser. The original work created in the Senior Project will be submitted in an appropriate electronic or digital form. There is an exit examination covering much of the technical material of the Music Technology curriculum that must be passed with a score of 85% or better to complete the Senior Project.

For a internet-based project: a project comprised of original musical works including compositions or algorithms that is designed specifically to be displayed on the World Wide Web. There is an exit examination covering much of the technical material of the Music Technology curriculum that must be passed with a score of 85% or better to complete the Senior Project.

For a collaborative project: a creative project involving dance, theater, film, video or computer animation produced in conjunction with a second artist. The musician will produce an original score and/or performance. The resulting collaborative project will then be presented in an appropriate public forum. The original work created in the Senior Project will be submitted in an appropriate electronic or digital form. There is an exit examination covering much of the technical material of the Music Technology curriculum that must be passed with a score of 85% or better to complete the Senior Project.

For a practicum project: The original work created in the Senior Project will be submitted in an appropriate electronic or digital form. There is an exit examination covering much of the technical material of the Music Technology curriculum that must be passed with a score of 85% or better to complete the Senior Project.

Final Approval Of The Project: At the time the project is completed, both project advisers must indicate approval by signing and dating the appropriate portion of the approval form and returning it to the Undergraduate Office.

Grading: The first two terms of Senior Project are taken P/N. The final term is graded. Marks of "I" are given until the project is completed.

Bachelor of Science Exit Examination

As part of the Sr. Project there is an exit examination covering much of the technical material of the Music Technology curriculum that must be passed with a score of 85% or better to complete the Senior Project. Study materials are distributed to all students upon entering the program (they can also be downloaded in pdf format and viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader). The examination must be scheduled a minimum of one month in advance. If it is required that the exam be retaken, the retaking of the exam must be scheduled a minimum of one week in advance.
