Corporate Careers

Some of the career paths in the corporate world include:

  • Banking and Finance -- work on Wall Street!
  • Market Analyst -- get paid to study markets.
  • Marketing -- sales makes the world go round.
  • Human Resources -- put your labor economics to good use.

Companies prefer potential recruits have previous experience, even for entry-level positions. However, this raises the age-old question of how do you get experience if they only hire people with experience!? The answer is to do one or two internships during your college career. Valuable business-related experience can also be obtained through other extracurricular activities as well, such as being the Treasurer of a student group. Employers want to hire students who have balanced good grades with meaningful extracurricular and volunteer activities, so get involved!!!

The best way to find out about these many varied opportunities in economics is by doing an internship. Click here to see a partial list of job placements for recent UO economics majors.
