Profile
Matt Kershner graduated in 1997 with a double major in Economics and Spanish. He has spent the last six years in
consulting, most recently in Management Solutions for Deloitte and Touche, but will be leaving the workforce to enter
the MBA program at Dartmouth this coming fall. Economics appealed to him as a good way of learning about business and
gaining quantitative skills. Economics was “the smart degree.” He was able to finish up his undergraduate career in
only three years by taking summer classes and was even able to spend a term abroad in Spain. His main advise to current
students is to just enjoy the college experience. Go to football games, theater productions, study abroad and take
some “fun’ classes such as fly fishing and golf. As far as advise for us graduating seniors, he has some encouraging
words. He admits that the economy is bad, but claims that there are many opportunities still out there. He says
employers are seeking well-rounded individuals and the best advice for new grads is to use their networking connections.
As for his future plans, he hopes to finish up his MBA and move on from consulting to the management the development
of a tangible product. He also hopes to have a more flexible schedule where he can work part time at home.
