meta-data: Western Waters update Dec. 2004

The Western Waters web site is at:
http://libweb.uoregon.edu/catdept/digcol/wwdl/index.html

There are currently 1037 digital objects within UO's
Western Waters, making up 29 texts, 99 still images,
and 3 maps and aerial photos. There are several other
texts that have been scanned and OCRd but not
yet loaded into CONTENTdm or built into compound
objects. Cataloging of the compound objects is
almost complete but you may run across a few that
still have only very sketchy metadata attached to the
document.

Jaye Barlous has been spearheading the digitization
work for the texts, under the direction of Corey Harper
and Lesli Larson. Harriett Smith has been instrumental
in doing a lot of the descriptive metadata. Corey has
been doing a lot of work on the public interface to this
and other digital collections. Corey just recently provided
training to a few of us in the creation of compound objects
(what is needed to create a book out of separate pages
of text).

Barbara Jenkins and Carol Goodyard have been working
on the process for transcribing interviews and have
also been training David Landazuri to do this work. Corey
has been working with Andy Kirkpatrick to create digital
video files to link up to the transcripts.

Jon Jablonski and others in the Document Center have been
working with Corey and Lesli in selecting, digitizing, and
describing the maps and aerial photos.

We are well ahead of our work on this grant and have already
started on work that was not even scheduled to start until
the next phase of the project.

There's a lot more going on with this collection and I'm sure
I've neglected to mention some key things. If you have
questions, let me know.
