Students who are taking 558 (the graduate course) must fulfill all of the 458 requirements (as stated in the syllabus) and write one additional paper (5-10 pp.) on the topic The role of awareness in judgment and decision making.
The paper counts up to 25 points towards your grade (and thus lies between the value of the midterm and the final).
The paper is due Monday, Dec 4, 1995 (which is the Monday of finals week, 2 days before the in-class portion of the final).
The paper must be typed or computer-printed, double-spaced, and have at least 1" margins. Any cited sources must be referenced in APA style at the end of the paper. I expect well-written papers, with next to no comma, spelling, or grammatical errors. You may be your own editor or find somebody else (in class or not) who would be willing to edit an earlier draft.
The style of the paper is flexible as long as it integrates different parts of the class under the heading of awareness. You can write a personal thought piece or more something like a literature review, but the goal of the paper is to make some informed and interesting statements about the role of awareness in judgment and/or decision making. You need not read additional literature (although you may if you want to); there is plenty of literature described in Plous and reprinted in the reader.
This paper topic is deliberately open (some might say vague). The process of sharpening or focusing the topic for your own paper will be itself an exercise in awareness.
