Theresa
D. O’Nell (B.A., 1981, Notre Dame; M.A., 1985, Ph.D.,
1992,
Harvard) has been an associate professor at UO
since
1998. Theresa O’Nell is a
medical
and psychological anthropologist who has worked with Native American
peoples
for fifteen years. Her findings on culture and depression among
the
Flathead people of Montana appear in her book Disciplined Hearts:
History,
Identity, and Depression in an American Community (U of California
Press
1996). Currently she is midway through a 5-year project on
history,
colonialism, and mental health among the people of a Northern Plains
tribe.
Dr. O’Nell’s teaching and research interests include medical
anthropology,
postcolonial psychology, and contemporary Native American life.
